From Cruise Port:    Dunedin

The first part of the day is a visit one of New Zealand's most renowned eco-tourism areas. Travelling the Otago Peninsula low road to Taiaroa Head, we drive by Otakou Marae on the way.

Upon arrival at the Royal Albatross Centre you have the unique opportunity to view the Royal Albatross as you enjoy a 1-hour guided tour of the colony. We then enjoy a bit of lunch (at your own expense) before heading to the other stunning wildlife sanctuary of the day - Nature's Wonders.

Here we take a 1-hour guided tour in a small coach over farmland to the wildlife viewing area and enjoy some magnificent scenery on the way.

Here amidst truly spectacular scenery, are the world's rarest penguins (Hoiho the 'Yellow Eyed'), the Little Blue Penguin, New Zealand Fur Seals and cormorants (shags) - all living in their natural environment.

We return to the city via the high road for the most picturesque scenery towards the Pacific Ocean on one side, the Otago harbour on the other and Dunedin City straight ahead. We then visit Baldwin St (the steepest street in the world), Otago University, and the Dunedin Railway Station before returning you to your cruise ship in plenty of time for your ships departure.

Please note, during the period 17th September to 23rd November, as this is the mating season for the wildlife, The Albatross Colony tour will not include the use of one of their viewing hides. They still take you to other viewing opportunities and the rest of the tour content is the same.

Where does the tour start from?

The tour begins at the Visitor Terminal at Port Chalmers. Your guide will meet you at the private tours meeting area before a short transfer to Dunedin city centre where you have some free time to explore before departing for the Otago Peninsula.

Will we defintely see the wildlife?

Like all wildlife tours there can never be a 100% guarantee that you will see the wildlife. Penguins, seals and albatrosses have some seasons when they are sometimes difficult to see, but on most tours you should see a least a few of each of these.

Will I be taken back to the ship?

Yes, the tour ends at the ship side in Port Chalmers, always in plenty of time to board the ship.

Is this tour suitable for wheelchair users?

Due to the terrain and vehicles at Nature's Wonders, this tour is not suitable for wheelchair users or persons with limited mobility.
